Behind the scenes: How I shoot Babies and Families out of the studio. September 18, 2011. When I photograph babies,it is very often that I go to the homes of.

And now for some fun!(No COVID-19 regulations were ignored for the. Carrying out of this shoot. )So, full disclosure: I was not “into” photography as a craft or a business when my own children were born. While I was working with babies professionally, it was not in the creative manner of a newborn photographer. At that time, I never realised the value of professional newborn images.

It wasn’t really on my personal radar at all back then. And it is something that I regret deeply.Of course I took photos of my own pregnant belly and my newborn babies, but they are unskilled snapshots (that I treasure nonetheless), but nothing to write home about. If I knew then what I know now, I would have placed the capturing of my swollen belly, recording that wrinkled, flakey baby skin, those hairy little shoulders, the tiny little bodies my own body had grown, as premium necessities - but time has flown and there is no going back!Regret it as I may, has given me more than enough time to make up for it!Please enjoy these images of my most recent newborn shoot - this gorgeous girl only 6307 days old. Also, don’t underestimate the value of creating a professional record of your newborn! DM me to book a session for your baby as soon as we have the all-clear on lockdown. However old they may be. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 🌸PS.

You might think that it would be far easier to photograph an older newborn such as this one. You would be wrong. Give me a brand new, freshly earthside bean any day! The (old) baby in this shoot was nowhere near as flexible or compliant as my usual clients are. She stayed awake the entire session and needed a feed halfway through.

Although I don’t mind the couple of cuddles I snuck in, she was a bit moany about some of the poses. Also, she was too big for my bean bag, most of my backdrops, props and wraps. We both worked up far more sweat than either of us would have expected. And, as with all my newborn shoots, I never force a pose. I am patient and gentle and work with what the baby is able to do on the day.Enjoy!
