Through The Ages Review

I should’ve bought the whole set LONG ago. This has really been a blessing for me. We love our time lines; they keep a visual reminder of what we’ve learned.I like how you can choose from pictures with or without write-ups and how you can scale the size to fit your timeline.

As I’ve said, Through the Ages is a civ game, and just like many games in the genre, players will transition from ancient history to the modern-day over the course of a playthrough. Managing resources and developing an adaptable and interconnected infrastructure is important, but the primary gameplay mechanic is card drafting. Through the Ages — the official adaptation of the eponymous strategy under the genre of the board game, which has no analogs for the richness of the actions and the sharpness of the gameplay. This game is noted (by some critics) as the best in the genre at all times and has one of the biggest game stories in the genre as a whole.

I like the quality of the drawings (a BIG plus to me). I like that you can search chronologically or by name. There are a few people or events that I didn’t find in this, but not so much that I wouldn’t recommend buying it. Those few that weren’t in it, I had my daughter make up her own figures, so it turned out to be a blessing anyway.

I absolutely love the HTTA timeline figures! Unfortunately for me, the CD-rom option came out after I’d purchased several printed sets. It’s a very good investment. The figures are absolutely beautiful!

We color them with high-quality colored pencils and they are so lovely! We use a wall timeline with the “Wonders of Old Timeline”, PDF-version, printed out. There is such a wide variety of figures!

We could never study all of them! By using the CD option, you can pick and choose what you want to print, and resize them to fit your needs.Amy Pak has a wonderful site page with timeline tips, tricks, and options. I purchased the complete History Through the Ages set on CD to use in our homeschool this year, and it is fabulous!

Making a timeline book with my girls is turning out to be a wonderful supplement to our history studies. I love that they get to put themselves in the timeline and then see how everything else relates. We haven’t been using it for long, but nearly anything you can think of that you might want to put in a timeline is here. In addition, the Homeschool in the Woods website has amazing resources for how to make all kinds of timelines, from one on the wall, to notebooks, to index cards in a file. They also have a beautiful timeline book for sale if you’d rather not make your own.The figures are on the CD as both wall and timeline-sized, with a small bit of text summary or without if you’d prefer to write your own. You can also purchase the figures pre-printed on card stock in wall size. The pictures themselves are beautifully rendered.Because I am a “rule follower,” I also purchased the Suggested Placement Guide that goes along with the figures. When my children and I went to place the first figures in our books, we were a bit stymied – should we put Columbus on the timeline with his birthdate, or when he did his exploration?

I had no idea. An historian might have passionate views about such things; I needed some guideance. This book solved that for us.Homeschool in the Woods does believe in a Young Earth with a literal 7 days of creation, so their timeline figures reflect that. It works for us, but it’s a detail you might like to know before purchasing.Overall, these figures have been a huge blessing and time saver for me! My children enjoy making their timelines and I’m thrilled with the History Through the Ages figures.
