Season 3 starts up in August, and promises to bring even more excitement to the league with new teams, tournament events, and more ways to get involved! Echo Arena RecapBecause the League is open to all students regardless of their experience with VR esports, many of the Echo Arena players this season were newcomers to the game’s (often challenging) mechanics. What they lacked in expertise was made up for in enthusiasm and mentorship from the professional Echo community, with veteran players – and even competitors from rival teams – stepping in to share their knowledge through workshops and friendly pickup games.After dominating the regular season with an undefeated record, it was no surprise that St. Clair secured a top seed position to move on to the Semis. They were joined by Clemson, Berkeley, and Miami – the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th seeds respectively.Semis/Finals Bracket (Top 4 Seeds)The Berkeley vs. Clemson bracket was a close match, with Clemson ultimately coming out on top.

Despite both Miami and Clemson putting up a struggle – both were the only teams to score on the Saints in Season 2 – St. Clair was the clear winner.

Beat Saber RecapCompetitors for the regular season Beat Saber tournament started out on a much more even playing field, practicing expert level custom tracks from the season 2 song pool to prepare for matches. Both Clemson and Berkeley quickly emerged as powerhouses in the league, with the Tigers’ only loss of the season coming at the hands of Berkeley Ursa Major (an insanely close match with one song having a final score differential of only 91 points between the teams). Despite a near season-ending injury on the Berkeley side, the two friendly rivals met again in the Semis as the 1st and 2nd seeds.Semis/Finals Bracket (Top 4 Seeds)Berkeley and Clemson were joined by Miami and Baylor in the Semis.

By the date of the much-hyped Finals match, the Ursa Major players had recovered and trained enough to take the Season 2 championship title and remain undefeated in the League. Moving ForwardA substantial amount was learned from this second season of competition, and the CVRE team plans to use the summer to continue making updates to the league infrastructure while holding community events. For future Beat Saber seasons, a tier system is in development in order to separate players at different skill levels. This will guarantee a more fair and encouraging environment for newer players while still exhibiting high level, competitive play from those in the upper tiers. With regard to Echo Arena, matches will switch to a two-half system that will make streams more engaging and allow casters to commentate more effectively.With a large number of new teams joining the league for season 3, there are proposals to add a third game to the tournament rotation. A new website is in the works to better support this growing competitor base with improved displays for player stats, community events, and league-related media. The CVRE team will also be continuing to travel to events across North America to promote VR access and help set up new teams.
